Dharma Card for January, 2014

     Undulating as life and death,

      the water of eternal life

      continues to flow on.

                  by Rev. Haya Akegarasu

      Humbly Welcoming the New Year

On the morning of January 1,

The 26th Year of Heisei

The 2557th Year of Buddha’s Nirvana

              (Southern Buddhist Calendar)

On the bell of Myotatsuji Temple in Hakusan

City, Ishikawa Pref. is the above tanka poem

inscribed. It was composed by Rev. Haya Akegarasu,

the former temple priest.

We do not know what “undulations” will come

on to us this year, but why not entrust ourselves

to the great compassion and wisdom of the Tathagata

of eternal life and light and live on in gratitude.
