      “Yes, yes,”

           nodding simply

              the lily flower is.

                      ---O-Sono

   ………………………………………………..

The lily flowers are now blooming beautifully, reminding

me of O-Sono san, myokonin or lotus-like Nembutsu person,

who lived in Tawara, Mikawa Province about 200 years ago.

She saw a lily flower waving in the breeze as simply nodding

to Amida Buddha’s calling obediently uttering “Yes, yes.”

At present, how about ourselves?  Do we ever respond to

Amida Buddha’s call, “Believe in Tathagata’s great mind reciting

Nembutsu and I will surely save you”?  Have we ever answered,

“Yes, yes, I will” and actually recited Nembutsu?

“Well, but…” or “All right, but…” we are likely to say trying to

find some excuses for not doing so, aren’t we?

On such runaway persons Amida Buddha is shedding all the

greater compassion, we should know.

O-Sono san rejoiced at that great Compassion with her cliché

“He minds nothing; He orders nothing.”

Amida Buddha doesn’t mind however sinful we may be and yet he

orders nothing from us.  O, how great is His compassion!

We cannot but be moved and recite Namuamidabutsu.
